The now infamous Steele dossier, compiled by British intelligence officer Christopher Steele, included a claim about the existence of a “pee pee tape” that showed Mr.Trump having Russian prostitutes perform a “golden shower,” which Russians may have used to blackmail him. Steele also claimed in the dossier that Trump had boasted to an associate that he had a “strictly confidential” meeting lined up with members of the Trump campaign.
On Thursday morning, The Washington Post released a bombshell report shining light on the source of that information. Sergei Millian, a Belarus-born businessman, is revealed to have had a working with relationship with Trump aide George Papadopoulos in 2016, and offered to serve as a go-between for the Trump campaign and a Belarusan author with connections to the Russian government.
According to The Daily Beast:
‘The Steele dossier cited Millian as a source for the assertion that a “well-developed conspiracy of cooperation” existed between the Trump campaign and Russian leaders, he was also cited as the source for the “pee tape” allegations.’
The new report suggests that Millian was much closer to Trump than previously thought and was working with the FBI to target the Trump campaign although FBI sources for The Post rejected that claim.
Millian’s get together with George Papdopoulos happened after months of outreach which included offering him a lucrative consulting contract to work simultaneously for Trump and an unidentified Russian, which Papadopoulos said he rebuffed.
According to The Post:
‘The new details deepen the persistent mystery surrounding Millian, two years after he was identified as one of the unnamed sources in a campaign dossier Steele compiled for Democrats about Trump’s ties to Russia.’
Millian has denied being a source for the dossier and has disappeared from public view also congressional investigators have attempted to interview him. Both The House and Senate committees have tried to interview him, and one person said that he did not respond to the Senate committee.
According to House Democrats, Millian was unwilling to appear before their panel without being granted immunity and they called on Republicans to subpoena him. Now that Democrats are in control of the House again, they have plans to obtain his testimony.
Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-CA), the new chairman of the House Intelligence Committee said:
‘Sergei Millian remains someone of deep interest to our investigation.’
The Post reported:
‘It is unknown whether Millian has been interviewed by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, who is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign. A spokesman for Mueller declined to comment.’
There are still many looming questions regarding Millian’s involvement with the Trump campaign and his exact role remains yet to be known.
‘Was he a business associate with an insider’s perspective on the candidate’s business adventures in Moscow? A self-promoting braggart spinning false tales? A Russian intelligence operative?’
Papadopoulos has said that he believes Millian was working with the FBI to target the Trump campaign. However, two people familiar with the FBI’s Russia investigation have said that he was not working with them during his interactions with Papadopoulos.
One acquaintance thinks that Millian lives in New York, but wasn’t really sure. Jeff Jetton, who is a Washington restaurateur and writer, said:
‘One time he sent me a photo. He was in Europe somewhere. He was on some bridge. I don’t really question him about where he is. He doesn’t question me about where I am. I don’t really care.’
They are catching up with Trump, and it will be interesting to watch where this information heads especially if the House is able to obtain Millian’s testimony.
