A driver in Trump’s presidential motorcade was detained Monday morning just outside of Mar-a-Lago, leading to yet another security breach, and one that could have cost Donald Trump his life.
When you’re the most hated man, arguably in the entire world, it’s probably wise to take extra precautions as far as who they allow around them, and how those people are secured. As one might assume, the Secret Service is obviously not wanding people working close to the president, leaving this massive room for error.
That is how a driver of a press van in Trump’s motorcade snuck his personal firearm into the motorcade transporting the president to and from his Mar-a-Lago golf resort in Florida. The weapon was apparently found in the driver’s luggage. The driver admitted it was his handgun.
During an apparent routine sweep, law enforcement found the weapon in a bag belonging to the driver, although it is not clear why this “sweep” wasn’t carried out until after arriving at Mar-a-Lago.
Before entering Mar-a-Lago, which apparently has better security than the White House, luggage belonging to everyone in the motorcade was lined up and searched so that no weapons are brought into the resort.
According to reporters, the driver claims he forgot to leave the gun in his personal vehicle. Because of that, every driver in the motorcade was not allowed to enter the resort, and the vans had to be driven in by White House staffers.
The driver in question has apparently driven a motorcade vehicle every day of Trump’s trip to visit survivors of the Parkland, Florida school shooting.
This was just the beginning of the dramatic morning endured by staffers, however. Once inside the resort, a press van hit a Secret Service vehicle parked in the parking lot.
You just can’t make this stuff up.
